Egypt, officially known as the Arab Republic of Egypt, is a northern African country and is one of the most populous African countries. The capital and largest city is Cairo, where some of the best places to visit in Egypt can be found. Thanks to its rich culture that is world-wide popular, this country if one of the best tourist destinations. A large part of it consists of the Sahara Desert though, and only a small part of the country is actually inhabited, with the majority of population being placed along the banks of the Nile River, the longest river in the world, running through ten countries.

If you’ve decided to go visit, one of the most important and popular places to visit in Egypt are the three Pyramids of Giza: Khufu, Kafhre and Menkaura. How these perfect geometrical structures were built remains a mystery to this day and they are a constant reminder of the greatness that Ancient Egypt had. While visiting the Pyramids you can take a small detour to see the Sphinx as well, another architectural marvel of the Egyptian world. Archaeologists still haven’t reached a conclusion regarding the Sphinx either, which only helped in increasing the mystery and attraction this construction inspires.

Egypt is a country rich in monuments, statues, palaces and temples, all a testimony of how great its culture is and how advanced the Egyptian people were as early as 4,000 years ago. This is why some of the most interesting places to visit in Egypt are the temples of Abu Simbel, built at the request of Pharaoh Ramesses II to memorialize his wife Nefertari and himself. The temples were actually relocated to help preserve them, so make sure you don’t miss them.

Other amazing places to visit in Egypt include the Temples of Karnak, the Nile River, the Valley of Kings and the Necropolis of Sakkarah. The Temples of Karnak represent the largest place of worship in Egypt, containing monuments for every god in the Theban religion. The Valley of Kings, also known as Biban El Moluk is where the most important pharaohs were buried and it still contains a lot of secrets and mysteries for archaeologists and historians. Don’t miss visiting the Egyptian Museum either if you want a more comprehensive understanding of the country’s culture and history and where you can see all the treasures and artifacts found in the pharaohs’ tombs.
